Team Building Events in New York City

Plan NYC team building events your people actually join: a racing or flight challenge with a live leaderboard. We set it up in your Midtown or Financial District office, on a pier or out on Randall's Island.

NYC team building ideas that fit a working day

If your team can't spare a free afternoon, bring the format to the office and run it in short rounds people join between calls.

A relay for Wall Street desks

The securities industry employs about 198,000 people in the city. On a trading floor, each desk picks its driver order, every lap goes on the board, and the desk with the best total wins. A turn takes about two and a half minutes, so nobody misses a call.

A landing challenge for client teams

Two flight simulators, two goals: land the plane, then fly low without touching the ground. It works for account teams in Midtown who host clients the same evening, because guests watch the scores and talk about them over dinner.

A simulator league for a tech floor

New York tech grew up around the Flatiron Building, and Google owns the full block at 111 Eighth Avenue in Chelsea. For an engineering floor, run a league: one station stays for a week, and the leaderboard resets every Friday.

All three run without leaving the building. For formats beyond simulators, see all our corporate team building events.

Where New York teams hold team building

Pick the place by how far your team will travel after work and how the stations get in. Here are four corporate event venues New York teams can use for a team day.

  • Your own office, Midtown to FiDi

A corporate event in Manhattan for one team can stay in the building. A conference room fits two cockpits; a floor-wide social takes four stations on one shared leaderboard.

  • Randall's Island Park, East River

330 acres and more than 60 athletic fields between Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx. The park runs its own corporate field days, kickball games and BBQs, and handles permits and vendors. The M35 bus runs from 125th Street and Lexington Avenue, and parking is limited to set lots, so plan buses for a big group.

  • Governors Island, New York Harbor

172 acres reached only by ferry from Manhattan and Brooklyn, open year-round since 2021. A team can bike, play and eat in one place with no traffic.

  • Chelsea Piers, Hudson River

The Field House at Pier 62 is an 80,000 sq ft multi-sport hall, and the Sunset Terrace takes 300 guests for a reception after. Ask us whether a simulator station can join your program there.

What your New York team day includes

You book one team, and that team deals with your building, your schedule and your scoreboard.

  • Station count sized to your floor. Two cockpits for a conference room, four for an open floor, flight simulators for a mixed crowd.
  • A host at each station. Our people brief each player, invite the quiet ones and keep rounds short.
  • Your leaderboard and prizes. Company colors on the screens, your prize places, and the final standings sent to you after.
  • One crew, nationwide. We have two bases, an office and warehouse in Orlando and a base in Los Angeles, and the East Coast is a regular part of our work. The equipment and the specialists travel together.

What shapes a team building quote in New York

  • How many stations, hosts and hours you need.
  • Your building's load-in window and freight elevator rules.
  • The venue: an office, a tent on Randall's Island or a ferry trip to Governors Island.
  • Travel and your date.
  • Branding, prizes and extra screens.

You'll see the full cost for your plan before you commit. Every event gets a custom quote, and in New York these things move it:

Our how we quote page explains each line.

Branded Racing Simulator for i2c at FinovateFall, New York

This trade show booth ran on the same mechanic as a team contest, in a Times Square hotel. We installed i2c's branded cockpit at the New York Marriott Marquis on September 8, tested it, then ran it 8 AM to 6 PM on the first two show days. People came back to beat their own lap, and the i2c team saved about 51 external contacts. For your team, that same board turns a desk rivalry into an afternoon contest. New York rules for a team event

A team day in New York can stop at the door over a missing paper. These are the ones we check.

  • Speakers outdoors. Amplified sound in a park or a plaza needs an NYPD sound device permit. It's filed at the local precinct at least five days before the event.
  • Assembly permit. A party of 75 or more in a room without a place of assembly certificate needs a Temporary Place of Assembly permit (TPA). A roof terrace counts as indoors.
  • Building insurance. Office towers ask for a certificate of insurance before a vendor loads in. Send us your building's sheet, and we'll match the names.
  • Ferry freight. On Governors Island everything arrives by boat, so the island confirms what can come over and when.

Questions about team building in New York

Can you run team building in our Manhattan office?

Yes. Send the floor, the room size and your building's vendor rules. We plan the setup around the freight elevator hours and leave the floor clear before the next workday.

When is the best season for outdoor team building in New York?

May and September. Central Park averages a high of 71.4°F in May and 76.2°F in September. October drops to about 64.5°F, and the city averages 29.8 inches of snow a year, so winter team days go indoors.

Do we need a permit to play music at an outdoor team event?

Yes, if you use a speaker or a microphone. The NYPD sound device permit is filed at the precinct where the event takes place, at least five days ahead.

What about a corporate retreat outside New York City?

Yes, upstate in the Hudson Valley, out on Long Island or across the river in New Jersey. Send us the retreat venue. We bring the crew and stations, and we confirm the load-in time with the venue before you sign.

Can we add a photo booth to the holiday party?

Yes. The booth comes in with the stations, so one load-in slot with your building covers both. See photo booth rental in New York for the formats.

Which weeks are hardest to book in New York?

September. FinovateFall, then Climate Week NYC with the UN General Assembly (September 19 to 26, 2027), fill Midtown hotels and venues. NRF's Big Show takes the Javits Center on January 10 to 12, 2027, and Advertising Week comes in October. For a team day in those weeks, book early or keep it in your office.
