Life sciences
The region had 71,448 life science workers and 2,042 establishments in 2024, the third largest hub in the country. Scientists enjoy a contest with data, so a racing simulator with a live leaderboard works at a lab milestone party.
480+ corporate events · 5 years
Plan corporate events in San Diego that fit the convention center's union rules and the port's paperwork. We bring simulators, photo booths and AV to the bayfront, Coronado or La Jolla.

Most large San Diego venues sit on the bay within walking distance of each other, and each has its own dock and power rules. Planning at a Gaslamp rooftop, a brewery or a Mission Bay resort? Send us the address and we'll check the space, power and loading route.
San Diego Convention Center
It offers 615,701 sq ft of exhibit space, with 525,701 sq ft contiguous on the ground level. The Sails Pavilion upstairs adds 90,000 sq ft of column-free space under the fabric roof. It began as an open-air hall, and glass walls went in during 2000.
Manchester Grand Hyatt
The hotel stands 0.3 miles from the convention center. Its 34,000 sq ft Grand Hall seats a gala of up to 3,000, and its renovated meeting spaces are reopening in phases through 2026.
USS Midway Museum
The aircraft carrier's flight deck takes a reception of up to 2,500 guests, and the flight and hangar decks together hold 3,500. Evening events run from 6 to 10 PM, so we load stations in before the museum's last tour leaves.
Hotel del Coronado
The resort has more than 97,000 sq ft of event space. The Founders Ballroom covers 11,571 sq ft for up to 1,000 guests, and North Beach adds 70,000 sq ft of sand for a beach party.
San Diego Zoo and Safari Park
San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance books corporate events at both parks, with private catered events and tours led by park staff. Among the animals, a quiet AI photo booth suits the setting, and we confirm with the park what can run on its grounds.
Book early for July: San Diego's two biggest conventions land in the same month, and they set the city's busiest weeks.
You keep your setup on schedule when the crew, the certificate and the permit match San Diego's rules from the start.
Who works the show floor
The convention center has a jurisdiction agreement with four unions: painters and allied trades, IATSE stagehands, IBEW electricians and Teamsters. They handle move-in, installation and dismantling for shows and corporate events.
What your own staff can do
Under Southern California rules, a full-time employee may set up a display that takes one hour or less without tools. You can hand-carry what one person can manage in one trip. A simulator station needs show labor, and the minimum is 4 hours per worker per day.
Fire code
Every display material at the convention center must be flame retardant under the California fire code. We confirm materials for station branding with the show contractor before printing.
COI at the convention center
A license here names three additional insureds: the San Diego Convention Center Corporation, the City of San Diego and the San Diego Unified Port District. We send our insurance documents on request.
City permits
A special event on city property needs an application at least 60 days ahead, and the city recommends 120. The fee is $341, with $80 for each business day late. Tents over 400 sq ft need a Fire-Rescue permit at least two weeks before. Open-sided tents up to 700 sq ft with 12 ft of clearance are exempt.
The area you pick shapes your guests' evening and our loading plan.
Your industry tells us what will pull guests in, so we pick the station before we pick the room.

For galas in the Gaslamp and convention parties, see our page on photo booth rental in San Diego, with AI and 360 options and an attendant.
For team building activities for work, we run simulator races and challenge formats that suit any fitness level, on a bayfront lawn, a campus lawn in Sorrento Valley or a hotel ballroom. Each format fits a half day. Read about our corporate team building programs.
We plan venues, transport from the airport and between Coronado and Downtown, dinners and activities for an incentive group. Our destination management services page covers the full scope.
We supply sound, LED screens and technicians, and we can run the show for a general session or an awards night. For hybrid event production in San Diego, we add cameras and a stream. Show-floor installs go through convention center labor, and we order it for you. See our AV rental page.
Each bayfront venue has its own badge and dock rules, and our operators plan around them. Our people run each station, brief guests and keep the line moving all event.
We build sponsor activations for Comic-Con week and the Esri conference, with branded stations and staff who capture leads.
Corporate entertainment in San Diego from our own fleet: racing, flight and surf simulators, VR stations and AI photo booths. A flight simulator draws a Navy or defense crowd, and a racing leaderboard suits a lab milestone party in Torrey Pines.
Yes. We have two bases, Los Angeles and Orlando, and work across the U.S. If your program also has dates up the coast, see our pages on corporate events in Orange County and our work as a corporate event planner in Los Angeles.
We book the venue, from a bayfront hotel to the Midway's flight deck, order show labor at the convention center, file city or port permits and run the event day. For a Navy or defense crowd, we add flight simulators, as we did with two flight simulators for Parker Aerospace's open house and a flight simulator for Sysmex at Hangar 21.
Often not in the morning. The coast's May gray and June gloom bring a thick marine layer, so we plan for cool, overcast hours and keep screens bright enough for outdoor use.
Yes. San Diego winters are mild, so a retreat at the Hotel del Coronado or a North County resort can keep sessions on the lawn or on North Beach. We bring heaters for evenings by the bay.
In December, a party can run on a bayfront terrace or the USS Midway's flight deck. Evenings by the water get cool, so we set the stations under cover with heaters.
Every event gets a custom quote. It depends on the format, the number of stations and hours, show labor at the convention center, city or port permits and travel.
