Corporate event venues in Houston

Houston spreads its venues across the city, so start with where your guests work. These rooms cover most corporate formats.

George R. Brown Convention Center, downtown

Halls A to E sit on one level with about 639,000 sq ft, and the Grand Ballroom adds 31,590 sq ft. A new building, GRB Houston South, is due in May 2028, so check which hall your show uses this year.

Marriott Marquis Houston

The 39,716 sq ft ballroom is the largest in Houston, and a skybridge links the hotel to the convention center. Its Altitude pool deck adds 50,000 sq ft outdoors, around a lazy river shaped like Texas.

NRG Center, NRG Park

More than 706,000 sq ft on a single ground level, split into 11 halls with 109 loading bays. Heavy stations roll straight from the truck to the floor without a freight elevator.

POST Houston and Skylawn

A former post office on Franklin Street with a five-acre rooftop park. The Office holds up to 3,000 standing guests, and the X Atrium up to 2,000.

Space Center Houston, Clear Lake

Galleries, theaters and Independence Plaza for up to 5,400 guests, next to NASA's Johnson Space Center. Wolfgang Puck Catering is the only caterer allowed on site, so plan the menu with them.

The Woodlands Waterway Marriott

A total of 66,532 sq ft of event space 27 miles north of downtown. The largest hall takes up to 4,900 people, close to the offices in The Woodlands and Spring.

Houston trade show calendar

Houston's calendar follows energy. Hotels near the convention center and NRG Park sell out in these weeks.

  1. Step 1: March

    • CERAWeek by S&P Global, March 8 to 12, 2027. Venues: Hilton Americas and George R. Brown.
    • Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, March 2 to 21, 2027. Venue: NRG Park.
    • March is the crowded month: CERAWeek and the rodeo overlap, so book rooms and crews early.
  2. Step 2: May

    • Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), May 3 to 5, 2027, about 25,000 energy professionals. Venue: NRG Park.
  3. Step 3: November

    • International Quilt Festival, November 12 to 15, 2026. Venue: George R. Brown.
  4. Step 4: At every show

    • At these shows our trade show booths come with trade show entertainment that pulls visitors in, such as a racing cockpit in your colors or a flight simulator.
  5. Step 5: December

    • A corporate holiday party in Houston has the easiest weather of the year. December evenings suit a courtyard or a rooftop, which summer does not.

Setup rules and permits in Houston

Texas is a right-to-work state, and that changes what happens on the show floor. Here is what we plan for before we load the truck.

  • Your staff may build at GRB.

Employees of an exhibiting company may set their own exhibit at the George R. Brown. Extra labor beyond your full-time staff comes from Carpenters Local 551, through the show contractor or an exhibitor-appointed contractor.

  • The dock belongs to one company.

21st Century Expo Group handles all dock services at GRB. Hand carry is limited to what one person carries in one trip, without a dolly or a hand truck.

  • Power comes from a licensed electrician.

At GRB an electrician ordered through the show contractor makes every electrical connection. Order power for each station with your booth services.

  • Street events need a city permit.

The Mayor's Office of Special Events takes applications 30 days to one year ahead. A later filing costs an expedited fee and may be denied if the event is complex.

  • Outside city limits the county decides.

Events in unincorporated Harris County go through the Harris County Fire Marshal instead.

  • Insurance documents

Insurance documents for your venue are available on request.

Where corporate events happen in Houston

  • Downtown is the convention district: GRB, two big hotels, Avenida Houston's outdoor plaza and POST all stand within a short walk.
  • West Houston has the Energy Corridor, a 7-mile stretch of the Katy Freeway with offices of BP, ConocoPhillips and Shell USA, plus the headquarters of Baker Hughes. An event close to the office saves those teams the drive downtown.
  • South of downtown, the Texas Medical Center works as a city of its own. Further southeast, Clear Lake has Space Center Houston for corporate outings with a space theme.

For a corporate retreat in Houston, look north to The Woodlands, with a convention hotel on the Waterway. Planning across Texas or the Gulf Coast? See corporate events in Dallas and corporate events in New Orleans.

Houston industries and the events they book

The city's employers shape its events, and each sector has a format that works. Two Houston corporate event ideas that fit local teams: a racing leaderboard works for a plant safety award, and a flight simulator suits a client night for an aerospace team.

  • Energy professionals at a client reception during a big industry week

    Energy

Houston has more than 4,200 oil and gas and energy technology firms. Their teams book client receptions around CERAWeek and OTC, safety award dinners and booth activations at NRG Park.

    Trade show booths

  • A guest flies the simulator while our operator in a pilot uniform guides her

    Medicine

The Texas Medical Center has more than 106,000 employees on 1,345 acres. Hospital groups and labs book staff appreciation days and client nights during medical conferences, like the flight simulator night we ran for Sysmex America during a lab medicine conference.

  • Employees fill a hotel ballroom for a large company holiday party

    Big headquarters

27 companies on the 2026 Fortune 500 list are based in Houston. Their HR teams plan holiday parties, town halls and summer socials for thousands of employees.

    Holiday parties

  • A flight simulator cockpit on a show-floor platform, ready for visitors

    Aerospace

NASA's Johnson Space Center anchors Clear Lake. Our flight simulator fits that crowd: guests take an airliner cockpit with an operator next to them.

Questions about corporate events in Houston

Can our own team set up a booth at the George R. Brown?

Yes. Employees of the exhibiting company may set their own exhibit there. Freight past the hand carry limit still goes through the dock contractor, and only a licensed electrician connects power.

Do we need a city permit for an outdoor company event in Houston?

You need one for an event on a public street or city property, filed with the Mayor's Office of Special Events 30 days to one year ahead. On private property, ask the venue which permits it already holds. In unincorporated Harris County, the county fire marshal handles it.

What happens to an outdoor event if a storm or hurricane comes?

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with the peak in August and September. For an outdoor date in that window, book a venue with an indoor room that has power. If a storm comes, our crew moves the stations inside.

Is it too hot for an outdoor event in summer?

In early August the normal high is 95°F, and Houston gets about 102 days a year at 90°F or more. Plan summer events indoors or after sunset, and keep simulator screens out of direct sun.

Which weeks are hardest to book in Houston?

March, when CERAWeek and the rodeo run at the same time, and early May during OTC. Hotels and crews near downtown and NRG Park fill first.

What drives the cost of a corporate event in Houston?

Every event gets a custom quote. In Houston it depends on the venue's dock and power orders and travel, plus stations, hours and staff. We have two bases, Los Angeles and Orlando (office and warehouse at 310 N Orange Ave), and work across the U.S. See how we quote.
